Cell Phones and Operating Systems That Can't Use Whatsapp 2020

The WhatsApp messaging application will stop functioning on a number of mobile devices running legacy operating systems both on Android and iOS.

Some devices are said to be no longer able to use Whatsapp after 31 December 2019. Last year, the company acquired by Facebook briefly turned off support for Windows Phone 8.0, BlackBerry OS and Blackberry 10.

Through the official WhatsApp blog, the company has confirmed that Nokia S40 series phones will stop running WhatsApp after 31 December.

The following is a list of phones and operating systems that are no longer supported by WhatsApp:

1. Nokia S40.
2. Android version 2.3.7 Gingerbread and previous versions until February 1, 2020.
3. iOS 7 and previous versions until February 1, 2020.

Therefore, the company which is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, USA is advising users to update their mobile device's operating system.

The operating systems that users must update are Android OS 4.0 and above, iPhone iOS 8 and above, and Windows Phone 8.1 and above.

WhatsApp said the decision not to support their services on a number of older mobile devices was actually a difficult decision for the company.

However, this was done in order to provide a good experience when using the instant messaging application.

"This is a difficult decision for us to make, but it is appropriate to give people a better way to stay in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp," said WhatsApp spokesman.

Previously, the application has stopped its support for older generations of Android such as Android version 2.3.3, Windows Phone 8.0 and earlier, iPhone 3GS or iOS 6 version, Nokia Symbian S60, Blacberry OS and Blackberry 10.
